Food Bank Malaysia

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

About us

Support us to end hunger and create a zero waste society

Our Story

Registered as Pertubuhan Bank Makanan Malaysia (PPM-002-02-11072020) or known as Food Bank Malaysia was founded in the year 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused widespread food insecurity in Malaysia.

The organisation started in Kedah, a state with the highest percentage of poor income households in the country.* (23.8%, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia in 2021).

Food Bank Malaysia began with a small van, distributing food to families in need with our first partner Lotus’s Malaysia rescuing food surplus and distributing to local underprivileged community.

As the demand for food assistance grew, the organisation moved into a shop lot and then into a single storey bungalow in Alor Setar, Kedah and slowly expanding to Kota Bharu, Kelantan and Cyberjaya, Selangor.

Vision

Our vision is a Malaysia where no one goes hungry and where food waste is a thing of the past. We believe that this is possible through a combination of food distribution, food rescue, and food education.
